Leading the roadmap of miniature PCB technology development

Fourteen Universities and Companies from ten European countries participated in the consortium meeting of FineSol project on Thursday, November 9th, in Alexandroupoli, Greece. FineSol project aims to offer a foundation on the development of “Assembly of miniaturized PCBs by using low cost hyper-fine solder powders”.

The total EU electronics industry employs ≈20.5 million people, sales exceeding €1 trillion and includes 396,000 SMEs. The industry faces significant challenges connected with the enormous quantity of raw materials that impact its competitiveness. The industry needs innovations in key areas as the drive for ultra-miniaturization/ultra-functionality equipment. The successful completion of the FineSol project would enable reduction in raw material usage and waste of Electrical Electronics Equipment leading in pollution and associated health costs and also a major reduction in EU energy demand. Consequently, this would effectively enable more than a doubling of the functions available on electronic devices such as cell phones, satellite navigation systems, health devices etc.

The consortium consists of 7 Small & Medium Enterprises, 2 Large enterprises, 4 Research Institutes, and 1 umbrella organization, all active in fields relevant to the project. Prisma Electronics is the specialized in electronics manufacturing partner and supports complex assemblies for CERN and ESA.

Amada Soukoulia, member of the board in Prisma Electronics said “We are proud to host in Alexandroupoli some of the leading electronics industry companies and European Research Institutes. We know there is a lot work to be done as this project will transform the whole miniature PCBs industry and advance European competitiveness” and added, “we envision a future where Miniature PCBs advance science and technology”.
