Visit by the leadership of the Ministry of Digital Governance to Prisma Electronics in Alexandroupolis

At the Prisma Electronics Electronic Circuit Production Plant in Alexandroupolis, the Minister of Digital Governance, Mr. Dimitris Papastergiou, accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Digital Governance, Mr. Christos Dermentzopoulos, had the opportunity to see the robotic production lines and the special clean room for space applications up close, and to talk with the company's executives and staff.
The Minister was briefed on the progress of the Greek nanosatellite MICE-1, which has been designed, developed, manufactured, and assembled entirely in Alexandroupolis, and is expected to be launched by the end of 2025 with the FALCON-9 rocket from SpaceX's facilities. MICE-1 complements the LAROS system, enhancing its capabilities for real-time data collection and transmission, predicting technical failures, improving energy efficiency, and reducing the environmental footprint, contributing to more sustainable and safer shipping. The mission is part of the National Micro-Satellite Program of the Ministry of Digital Governance in collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA).
The program is being implemented as part of the "Micro-Satellite Network Development" action of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan – Greece 2.0, with funding from the European Union – NextGenerationEU, and is a strategic investment in innovation, technological independence, resilience, and sovereignty for the country.
During the visit, Mr. Papastergiou was also briefed on the progress of the first Cyber Hub – NIS2 in Greece, which was announced last April. The new cybersecurity hub aims to be a comprehensive ecosystem of strategic and technological protection, offering training, cyber threat analysis, incident management, and advanced data protection solutions.
Through its projects and collaborations, Prisma Electronics strengthens the local economy, supports the national development strategy, and places Evros at the center of the European technological perspective.
STATEMENT BY THE MINISTER OF DIGITAL GOVERNANCE
"My visit to Prisma Electronics today is tangible proof that the Greek region can play a leading role in international innovation and technology. Together with the Deputy Minister and Member of Parliament for Evros, Christos Dermentzopoulos, we had the opportunity to discuss the progress of important initiatives that highlight Evros as a hub for digital development. I would like to highlight the National Microsatellite Program, under which the Greek nanosatellite MICE-1 is being built for use in the business sector, developed entirely in Alexandroupolis, a project that connects this remote region with modern technological progress and European strategic priorities. Alexandroupolis, with its businesses and people, proves that Greece has the talent, vision, and potential to invest in the future, creating new opportunities for citizens and added value for the national economy. "
STATEMENT BY CEO CHRISTOS GIORDAMLIS
"We are particularly pleased that the Minister of Digital Governance, Mr. Papastergiou, together with the Deputy Minister, Mr. Christos Dermentzopoulos, are here with us today in Alexandroupolis. We had the honor of showing them around our facilities and the opportunity to talk about our capabilities in the new landscape of digital applications and space. We are the first Greek company to produce IoT devices for shipping, the first Greek company that in a few weeks will have its own nanosatellite in orbit. With this, we will create a new generation of products for the next decade, in a new environment where ships and systems are constantly monitored, operating in a more environmentally and human-friendly manner. Our vision is becoming a reality: Prisma will become a Technology and Innovation Hub in remote Greece, for research and applications related to environmental protection, smart cities, tourism, the defense industry, civil protection, and shipping, with quality of life for our people, the fantastic team at Prisma Electronics."
